Enjoy historic charm? Jeffersonville, Indiana has tons of it and more! Located directly across the Ohio River from Louisville, Kentucky, the city served as one of the principal gateways to the South during the Civil War. The town's name honors President Thomas Jefferson, who suggested a unique checkerboard plan for the settlement at the invitation of his friend Territorial Governor William Henry Harrison.

Live in St Louis Later the town continued to grow as a shipbuilding center for steamboats and river barges until Jeffersonville became the largest inland ship builder in the US. Today this lovely old town continues to reinvent itself and is booming once again as shown by its rapid growth over the past 10 years. Soon residents will enjoy the city's new Canal District that will be anchored by major new hotel and convention center developments. While honoring its historic roots, the canal illustrates the progressive attitude of Jeffersonville turning a challenge many river towns face, the need to address combined sewer overflows, into an economic opportunity.
