Our Vision: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow

When Vince Bernardin and I decided in 1980 to leave our jobs with the local metropolitan planning organization and strike out on our own, little did we dream of the road that lay before us. Driven by our desire to find new challenges and explore cutting-edge technologies, we opened an office with a staff of five on the 6th Floor of the Hulman Building in Evansville, Indiana. Today with over 140 employees and four offices providing a comprehensive range of services, I look back and marvel at how far we’ve come.

While many things have changed since those early days, some things remain the same:

A planning mentality that focuses on clients’ overall goals, rather than on simply completing an individual assignment
The thirst for exploring cutting-edge innovation, tempered by Midwestern common sense, in order to maximize value for our clients
The need to challenge ourselves technically and professionally so that we can grow as individuals and as a firm
Respect for human and natural environments and a commitment to environmentally sensible solutions that serve both
Recognition of the role our clients, our employees, and our communities play in making our success possible

As BLA continues forward, it gives me great pride that those simple values we envisioned over
30 years ago not only continue to serve us well today, but promise to guide us well into the future.
